Oh there's no Place Like Home...

For Christmas Eve...

and Christmas morning too!

We had an amazing Christmas with all of our family...both furry and hairless. The only bad part is the inevitable return to the real world in just a few days time. Why is it that cold is festive up until Christmas and then after, it's just cold...and miserable? Ok, well to be fair, yesterday it was still fun but only because it snowed. Well actually, it flurried. Is that a word? Flurried? We Floridians know not of such. That was really exciting for us. So much so that we stood outside in our meager Floridian winter garb in 30 degree weather just so we could watch it fall. For about five minutes. Then we got cold. Don't laugh. Or do, because it is rather funny. And sad.

Anywho, I got completely spoiled beyond belief this year with an INCREDIBLE new Canon speedlight!!!!! a new Canon camera bag (I feel so professional now!), clothes, shoes, new makeup and brushes that I needed incredibly bad bad bad and lots of other wonderful amazingness. I feel so loved by all of my wonderful family and of course my honey...who you can see sporting his new suit above. Isn't he a hottie?!?! We thought he could use some professional attire for his upcoming interviews with graduation approaching and friends getting married and such.

As you can see, we ate well. Two fried turkeys in two days, party food, sticky buns, stuffing coming out of our ears. But not really, because that would be gross. Now, my only problem is that I have spent the last four (plus) days eating and sleeping and now all I want to do is eat and sleep. That's attractive, right?
Now I will sign off to go drink apple cider and devour my new Southern Living that I got in the mail today and pretend that I do not actually have to return to work and school shortly. You should do the same.

It's Because I'm Green Isn't It?

I have no idea what this quote has to do with the price of rice in China, but it's the Grinch and I like it, so there. We had a little fun...well let me restate that, I had a little fun playing with a new photo prop yesterday, dear lovie just got dragged along for the ride. Isn't this chair just completely amazing??? In LOVE! Dusty got pulled into another mini photo session, but in my defense, this lasted all of five minutes and he was very happy with the results. Poor thing finally got off of work early for the first time in about ever. He works 'till 6:00 or later every single day, unless he has class, in which case he gets off at five and hauls buggy to class 45 minutes away to be there at 6. So yeah, he's one tough cookie!

I hope you are all having a fabulous Christmas Eve day, or whatever we call this, and you don't have to brave the mall or Wal-Mart with their 3 aisles open, 5,000 shoppers, and .97 prices (what's with that???). I will be busting my bottom cleaning, baking, and decorating. Speaking of which, I need a refill on this coffee so I can hop to it...bllaagghh...

I wish you a day that is more organized than mine, holly, jolly, merry, and {whatever else you may want to insert here}!

Happy Christmas!

Love, Ramsey

Sunday Mornin' Rain is Fallin'

So I woke up yesterday to an eerily warm morning. Should have known it was too good to last. I put myself through five hours of shopping in that skirt, sans tights as the temperature mercilessly dropped about 20 degrees. Note to self: Dear future self, always be prepared to accept December weather in December. Needless to say, I spent the remainder of the evening curled up under a blanket with a large order of take-out Chinese and brownies, watching "True Grit". What was it about, you ask? I have no clue. I lost myself about five minutes in.
I wish that I could report some really interesting stories from my uber exciting weekend full of parties and nights out, but unfortunately, all I did was work, shop, eat, and sleep. I am still completely exhausted. They (whoever "they" are) must be correct when they say that sleep breeds sleep.

On the positive side, I'm off to shoot a wedding with some really nice photographer friends who invited me to join them for the day. I'm pretty much psyched...just hoping not to have some massive fail in the line of duty...and this dreary, rainy weather goes away. Wish me luck!
Ok, so for those of you who stopped by for a recipe or craft, here's one that you (or your honey) can whip up in a matter of minutes:
Peppermint bark
Melt one bag semi-sweet chocolate chips in a double boiler. Spread in a thin layer on a wax paper-lined baking sheet. Don't worry if it's not a perfect square or circle, or whatever you were going for. Repeat with one bag white chocolate, right on top. Now sprinkle one of those massive candy cane sticks, finely crushed, over the top and allow it to sit in the freezer until firm (overnight is good). Just break it into chunks and wrap it up. (The crumbs from this process are awesome in hot cocoa or coffee.) But make sure to keep some for yourself, because it's good with coffee. Not that I would know because I've been downing multiple cups a day or anything. Not me. Now go convince your man to make you some bark.

P.S. I got all of my ingredients at, you guessed it, Dollar General...so scat. Get to your nearest
"dollar" retail store and buy some chocolate.

Several Nuggets of Craftiness

For you lovely last minute Christmas folks. I say last minute to all of you productive ones...for me and my procrastinating comrades, this is still way early to be finished. So anyway, I have several morsels of crafty brilliance to share with you today. I feel so productive and energetic, but maybe that's just all the coffee.
So first off, we have wrapping. I mean, these aren't exactly rocket science or anything (but if you are interested in that let me know and I'll do a feature sometime) but they are 1. Cuter than a standard, run-of-the-mill, stick-on gift tag and crumpled bow 2. Cheap...what on here isn't...college student, remember? 3. Quick (also very important because remember kids, those lovely wrapped presents under your sparkling tree will be torn to shreds in 3 seconds flat on Christmas morn no matter how much you'd like to deny it). Cynical? A little. True? Yes.
Tip#1:
Kraft paper. It is cheap and it makes everything look uniform, beautiful, but not fussy, and high end. It also reminds me of the classic "brown paper packages tied up with string". Tired of the Sound of Music references yet? Thought so.
Tip#2:
Ok, to some of you professional craftapreneurs out there, this may be elementary, but to the novices, I present scrapbook paper. I bought a book of it at Wally World (Translation: Wal-Mart for you newbies) for 5 buckaroos and I use it for everything EVERYTHING. I mean really, I ran out of TP (toilet paper) this morning and...I kid, because that would be gross. Really. I mean come on.... Moving on, you can make cute, simple personal tags with a simple square or tag shape if you really wanna get fancy schmancy. I like to add a smaller shape from white card stock and punch a little hole through both, no sticky device needed.
Tip#3:
Alternative to store bought bows. You do not have to spend an hour wrapping each present to have a beautiful array of lovelies under your tree, just tie on a quicky ribbon and I assure you, it looks SO much more original than a sticky bow. That being said, if you do use sticky bows, the bow police will not be out hunting you down and your gifts will still be appreciated just as much. (Read: DO NOT feel bad for not wrapping each gift with personality, this is a choice not a necessity). See earlier post on the stresses of a perfect Christmas.

Continuing on, I made these precious jars for my Mamaw and great Aunt with a few simple "ingredients" from Dollar General, perhaps my new favorite store. I live in a really small town by the way, before you go thinking I'm really lame. I say this as if it excuses me or something. The jars were $2, the candy was $3, chalk, ribbon, and chalkboard spray paint: from my stash. Not bad for $10 total for two. I simply taped off the shape I wanted and taped on paper to protect the rest of the jar. Then, I broke every spray paint rule in the book as I took the jars outside and sprayed them. In my good boots. In the FREEZING (literally) cold, with (almost) 50 mph winds. So beat me...they turned out fine.

And finally, more "Office Frosting" kits. I just had to share all the juicy details with you guys because you appreciate them (or so I'd like to think) and because these were a labor of love...but I do love them, nothing steals my heart like a cute scrapbook paper-embellished journal and clipboard set. Well maybe D boy, but nothing else. Really.

In case you are new and missed these last time around, first off: Hi, I'm Ramsey. Please take the time to leave a comment introducing yourself. Otherwise this conversation would be awkward because I wouldn't know if you were actually listening, which always ends in the conversation just gradually turning into a mumble and then trailing off, which I hate. Also, you can see the how-to post here.
So, as if this post weren't already long enough, you might as well hear me out on this, you've made it this far. I will leave you with an analysis of why I may never again leave my small town to go Christmas shopping. Ever. Again. The other day, I took a trip to the unpretentious establishment commonly known as Wal-Mart. However, unbeknown to me, this happened to be the absolute largest Wal-Mart probably in the entire South (and that's sayin' something...we Southerners like our Wal-Mart). Well the store was about 1/2 mile wide and took five whole minutes to cross...do the math, I'm a fast walker. I assure the store had everything a Wal-Mart could ever offer, it was just so big I couldn't find any of it. I got lost. At that moment, I decided that the remainder of my Christmas shopping would be performed at my beloved Dollar General and from the comfort of my recliner while wrapped in a Snuggie and sipping a cup of hot cider. For those of you that read regularly, (Hi again!) yes, I am always sipping something. If you are wondering, yes, I spend ALL day running back and forth to the bathroom. On days when I don't feel like working out, I just up my water intake and then make up for the lack of gym motivation by running back and forth doing "toilet squats". TMI? I thought it might be.
Speaking of, where is that hot cider now?
